The short version
CliffGuard is designed to be privacy-first. You can use the calculator without creating an account, without providing your name, and without us storing your financial details. We collect the minimum data needed to make the tool work and improve it.
What we collect
When you use the calculator
Your calculation inputs (salary, pension contributions, household details) are processed in your browser and on our server to generate results. We do not store your calculation inputs or results unless you explicitly choose to save them by providing an email address.
If you save a calculation
If you choose to save your results, we store the email address you provide along with your calculation data. This is so you can retrieve your results later. You can request deletion of saved calculations at any time by contacting us.
Ratings and feedback
If you leave a star rating or written feedback, we store it to help improve the tool. Feedback is linked to your browser session, not to any personal identity.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how people use CliffGuard: which pages are visited, how far through the calculator people get, and general usage patterns. Google Analytics collects anonymised data such as your approximate location, browser type, and device. It does not have access to your calculation inputs or results.
We also log anonymous usage events (e.g. "calculation completed", "strategy explored") to our own database to track overall usage. These events contain a random session identifier, not personal data.
What we do not collect
- Your name (unless you volunteer it in feedback)
- Your employer or company name
- Payslips, P60s, or any uploaded documents
- National Insurance number or tax reference
- Payment or bank details
How we use your data
- To provide your calculation results
- To let you retrieve saved calculations (if you choose to save)
- To improve the accuracy and usability of CliffGuard
- To understand aggregate usage patterns (not individual behaviour)
Data storage and security
Data is stored securely in a managed PostgreSQL database hosted by Abacus AI. Access is restricted to the CliffGuard application. We do not sell, share, or provide your data to any third party, except as required by law.
Cookies
CliffGuard uses essential cookies for the calculator to function (e.g. remembering your progress between steps). Google Analytics sets its own cookies for usage tracking. No advertising or marketing cookies are used.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. Since CliffGuard collects very little personal data, in most cases there is nothing to delete.

Use the controls below to clear data stored in your browser, or to delete any calculations you saved against your email. Both actions are immediate.
Clear data stored in this browser
Removes your calculator inputs, results and any preferences kept in this browser's local storage. Doesn't affect saved calculations stored on our servers.
Delete calculations saved against your email
Enter the email address you used when you saved a calculation. We'll permanently delete every saved calculation linked to that email from our database.
